JLUNKES SUMMARY OF FREAKIN' HDMI:
Released in April of 2002, the HDMI was designed as an improvement and replacement of DVI-HDTV, or DVI-HDCP(the most popular HD formats at the time). The improvements were a smaller connector, audio support, improved YCbCr, and CE control functions. HDMI has seen 9 different versions(from 1.0 to 1.3c). Each version used the same type of cable and typically only improved the size of the Bandwidth and/or capabilities of what's transmitted through the cable. There are also three different connector types, Types A and B(released with 1.0 mod) and type C(released with 1.3 mod). Type A has the bandwidth to support all SDTV, EDTV, and HDTV modes. Type B has 29 pins and can use twice the video bandwidth of Type A for use with very high-resolution future displays. Type C is a mini connector(19 pins) intended for portable devices, and is compatible with type A using a type A-to-type C cable.
